🔒 Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploadedConvert Excel worksheets to portable CSV
Excel workbooks are excellent for analysis, formulas and formatted reports, but many apps and databases expect a simple comma-separated file. This private Excel to CSV converter lets you pull tabular data out of an XLSX or XLS workbook without installing desktop software or uploading the file to a remote service. Drop the spreadsheet into the box, choose the worksheet you need and the page creates a plain CSV file that is ready for import.
The conversion is powered by SheetJS inside your browser. Your workbook is read from local memory, transformed into text, previewed on the page and downloaded directly back to your device. Nothing is posted to an API, stored in a queue or inspected by a server. That makes the tool useful for internal reports, customer exports, finance lists and other files that should not be copied into an unknown online converter.
What changes when Excel becomes CSV?
CSV is intentionally simple: each row becomes one line of text and each cell becomes a field. Formatting, cell colors, formulas, charts, comments, hidden sheets and multiple tabs are not part of the CSV format. If the workbook has several worksheets, export them one at a time. If a cell contains a comma, quote or line break, the converter escapes it so spreadsheet and database programs can read the value correctly.
Best practices before importing
Check the preview before downloading, especially when a workbook mixes notes, summaries and data tables on the same sheet. A clean first row with column names produces the most predictable import. If you need to remove blank rows, trim whitespace or drop columns after conversion, use the CSV Cleaner next. Keeping the workflow browser-only gives you a quick way to prepare data while protecting the original spreadsheet.
Output details to know
The download is named after your workbook plus the sheet name, and uses commas as delimiters with UTF-8 encoding. Formula cells are exported as their last calculated values rather than as formulas, and numbers and dates generally appear as they are displayed in the sheet. The on-page preview is limited to the first 20,000 characters, but the downloaded file contains the entire sheet.
If accented or non-Latin characters look garbled when you reopen the CSV in desktop Excel, use Data > From Text/CSV and choose UTF-8 as the file origin instead of double-clicking the file. Both .xlsx and legacy .xls workbooks are accepted. Encrypted or password-protected workbooks will likely fail to open, and only the selected worksheet is converted, so repeat the export for each sheet you need.
